One of the best things about giving gifts is the idea that they don’t always need to be taken seriously, and that sometimes, gifts can be very funny. Gag gifts have been around for a long time, and they are usually gifts that are meant to make people laugh or at least smile, sometimes if only inwardly. A gag gift can be great for an office party, for someone’s birthday, anniversary, retirement or just to make someone laugh on any random day. Therefore, it is important to think about inexpensive gag gifts that you might want to give to someone that will accomplish what you intend it to do.
By far the best type of inexpensive gag gift is called the White Elephant – a gift that you can find in your own home. The best type of gag gift if something that you don’t use, don’t care for, and assume that other people won’t use or care for either. A great work-out VCR tape from the 1980s (maybe a Jane Fonda work-out tape), or an ugly snowman wearing a Hawaiian Shirt, a pink flamingo, or 20 year old cigars your father never smoked all can be a great gag gifts because most people will think them humorous. If you are looking for gag gifts, probably the best kinds to get are those that are associated with one’s age on their birthday.
There are plenty of 30 year old, 40 year old, and 50 year old joke gifts – because those ages have a connotation of “getting older”. Therefore, there are plenty of joke or gag gifts that revolve around the idea of getting older and in a sense “needle” the recipient about their steady but surely increasing of years. These are probably some of the most popular gag gifts, because they are the most easily joked about areas in someone’s life.
Another type of gag gift that you might consider getting someone is a practical joke gift. These can be classic – like the fake ice cube with a plastic fly inside of it, to the pile of fake vomit that you can put next to someone’s chair, and fake dog droppings placed in the middle of the living room . All of these gifts are given with the intent of making someone laugh but first by playing a prank on them and maybe even making them feel uncomfortable for a second or two. Of course, when you are giving these types of inexpensive gag gifts, you want to be sure that you are giving them in an appropriate environment to pull off the joke, so you aren’t hurting anyone’s feelings or creating an awkward situation perhaps in a public place or a work environment.
Other types of inexpensive gag gifts are those considered “clever,” “unique,” or just out-of-the ordinary rather than outright funny. Gifts that someone wouldn’t buy for him or herself fall into this category too. Gifts such as naming a star after someone or buying what is called a Deed to the United States (one-square inch of land in each of the 50 states) are perfect examples. No matter what the reason, great inexpensive gag gifts can be fun and exciting. You’ll be able to find something for everyone, and no matter what else is going on in your life, you will all probably enjoy a good laugh.
