The USAFA track and field team, coached by Ralph Lindeman, will begin their new season on 1/3/09, in Reno, Nevada. They will be taking part in the National Pole Vault Summit. Coach Lindeman announced the team’s schedule for the upcoming season on September 19, 2008. The USAFA track and field team, the official team of the United States Air Force Academy, will compete in four meets at home during the regular season.
USAFA has both a men’s and women’s track and field team. Ralph Lindeman is the head coach. Scott Irving is Associate Head Coach. Lt. Col. Steve Cowles is an Assistant Coach, along with Maj. Ben Dahlke and Scott Steffan. Bob Graf and Ron White both serve as Volunteer Coaches for the team.
Competitions for 2008-2009 Indoor Season
Last year, during the 2007-2008 season, the team competed very well. This year they once again will stay very busy, competing in numerous meets during the indoor and outdoor seasons. They will host several competitions, and travel to many competitions, as well. The USAFA track and field team will host the MWC Indoor Championships on February 26-28, 2009. This is the conference championship meet for USAFA and the eight other track and field teams in the Mountain West Conference
Outdoor Season/Relay Season/Post-Season 2008-2009
The outdoor season will start on March 20, 2009, when the Falcons will compete in the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Arizona, on March 20-21. Some of the Falcons will compete in the relay season during April and May 2009. The postseason begins on May 13-16, which the 2009 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. The 2009 postseason continues with the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships (Norman, Okla., May 29-30) and the NCAA Outdoor Championships (Fayetteville, Ark., June 10-13).

The Falcons’ Accomplishments
Over the past year, many members of the USAFA team have celebrated some exciting accomplishments. Dana Pounds finished second at the Olympic trials, and Paul Gensic placed sixth. Pounds narrowly missed competing with Team USA in the Summer Games. On July 1, 2008, David Lissy was named NSCA All-American. Then, on August 6, 2008, Matt Williams was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
The Falcons are truly a team to watch this 2008-2009 season. They are expected to once again compete fiercely in all their meets and events. This is a team America can be proud of! The USAFA track and field team are proud to be serving their country, and they are proud to be Falcons!
